Closet Door Difficulties

Posted by Cynthia

The closets in this house are unusual sizes, so we have had a hard time with new closet doors. We could not keep the old ones because they were either broken or had whole panels missing. We wanted sliding doors that matched the bifolds we had used elsewhere, but aparantly they do not make such things. The next best option were glass sliding doors with the white casing. Of course they were out of the size we needed at Lowe’s(although they did say they were on order), so we went to Home Depot. They had ONE set of the size we needed, but that brand was $10 more, and we really wanted all three to match. So we didn’t buy it. Hopefully the ones at Lowe’s will be back in stock by the time we are ready to list the house…

At least we got a few things done today. We did buy the closet poles and wall mounts, which we have cut and are ready to put up. We cut and painted some more trim pieces–thankfully we are almost done with the trim. It has been a HUGE job. But it has made a huge difference in the look of the house. We also decided on some little trim pieces for the upper kitchen cabinets. The lower kitchen cabinets are another story. They have many coats of paint, and some of them are probably oil based. We are going to try to sand them smooth and paint them white, but it may be slow going…Hopefully we don’t have to build new doors. That could take awhile.

I have made a final list of what needs to be done, but every day something new seems to come up. We are getting close, but everything seems to take FOREVER!! Hopefully we can get done in the next few weeks…
