Open House #2

Posted by Cynthia

We sat here all day Saturday and Sunday, and not a single person came to look at the house. Last weekend, we at least had a few people stop by, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time. I think we will try this FSBO thing for two more weeks, then call our Realtor. We really need to sell at least one of our houses!! It rained here in Seattle today, so that could be part of the reason there were no house lookers, but it is still disappointing to sit around all day, and have no one stop.

Thursday

We have done very little the last few days. We worked on cleaning the MH up a bit, and we did a tiny bit of landscaping–we got a 1/2 yard of bark and spread it in the planting beds, and I planted a few little mums. Not much, but it dresses up the house a little.

I am still getting over the loss of my kitty, but I know she had a good life, and I am relieved that it was quick and painless for her. It is a little easier when I remember that. Also our little black kitty has been especially sweet the last few days.

Today I think we are going to work on cleaning Kevin’s truck, and getting it ready to sell. We will be towing my CR-V, and now that we are done with Home Depot runs and dump runs, we really don’t need the truck anymore. We have to get used to having one vehicle, anyway, so the sooner we can get it sold, the better.

We have a dual tuner TiVo, but only one line is connected. When both are connected, we can record two different channels at once. This is important now that premiere week is less than two weeks away. Since we travel with our satellite, we have opted for the East and West coast feeds instead of receiving local channels. This means that the same shows play twice per night, once East coast time, and once West coast time. Even so, there are times(like Thursday at 9pm), that I need East and West, plus the two tuners. Kevin is going to drill a 1/2 inch hole into the roof of the motorhome, and run the new cable through it from the dish on the roof into the cabinet above the drivers seat where the unit is. Pretty scary!! We will also use this hole to run our XM radio antenna, so we really do need it, but yikes!!

Bike Ride

Info on the Burke-Gilman Trail

We took a couple of hours this morning and went South on the Burke-Gilman trail. We went from the mall parking lot at 178th street down the trail to 125th street. We think this is a little over two miles each way, so it was a nice, relaxing ride. This was really our first ride on our folding bicycles, and they did a great job–they fit nicely in the back of the CR-V, and they felt good while riding. We even left them in the back of the car to entice us to go for another ride soon.

House for Sale

Posted by Kevin

forsale.JPG

We now have our house up for sale. It took us just under three months, but the house is basically finished and ready to sell. We have some finishing touches–a bit of landscaping in the front, and a few touch-ups here and there. A lot of work and a lot of money, but we are very pleased with the result.

Kitchen: Finished

Posted by Kevin

kitchen2.JPG kitchen1.JPG

We have finally finished the last room in our home makeover–the kitchen. We did the kitchen last because we needed the counter and the sink for workspace. We removed four layers of linoleum from the floor and installed ceramic tile, we removed old wallpaper, then textured and painted the ceiling and the walls, we removed the old formica countertop and layed new white ceramic tile, and we stripped, sanded, and repainted the cabinets. A lot of work, but we have gotten positive feedback from everyone that has seen it…Now we just need to find a buyer, so we can think about where we would like to go next!!!

White Cat 1998-Sept 8, 2007

Our kitty cat was hit by a car trying to cross the street in front of our house yesterday. She came to us as a stray, sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas in 1998 when we were living in Wenatchee. She was just a kitten when we decided to keep her, rather than let her freeze in the snow. She was a temperamental thing sometimes, but a good pet. She will be missed.

Another Before & After, Plus Misc. House Update

Posted by Cynthia

office2.JPG office.JPG

These first two pictures show the master bedroom/family room before. We scrubbed the mildew off of the walls, replaced the carpet, textured and painted the ceiling and walls, replaced the doors–two sets of bifolds and two regular doors, painted the window frame, added moulding around all the doors, the windows, and the floor…we just need to get new covers for the light fixtures, and this room will be done.

We worked all day today laying the ceramic tile on the kitchen countertops. It took a lot longer than I thought it would, but neither of us had done tiling before, so we went very slowly, and checked everything from all angles. It looks pretty good, I think. Tomorrow we will finish by tiling the backsplash, then grouting–we will post some more pics of the kitchen when we are done with the counter.

We have a million little projects to finish this week so that we can begin to show the house on Saturday–our first open house day. We need to: touch up the trim paint where we filled the nail holes(every room), install the glass sliding closet doors that we finally were able to buy(three of them), sand and paint the lower cabinet doors, and reinstall them with new hinges and knobs(8 doors), install the trim below the kitchen cabinets(two pieces), install the trim around the kitchen window, touch up the paint on the kitchen cabinets and install the tiny trim pieces on the upper cabinets, fix the broken window in the bathroom(find someone that can do it quickly), touch up the grout(in the shower, the entry to the bathroom, and the main entry), figure out what to do with the flourescent fixtures in the carpeted room, fix the problem with the light fixture in the living room(no on-off, it stays on all of the time), fill in the missing mortar around the fireplace, touch up the wall paint in a few places, install the door stops(about six), install new smoke detectors(probably three), and go over the yard a bit more–there are some new weeds and there are still paint chips all over. Once all of the projects are done, we will need to take a trip to the dump with all of the remaining trash, hose off the front of the house and walkway, mow the grass, clean the windows inside and out, dust the house(mostly from sanding the floors) from ceiling to floor, clean the front of the dishwasher, touch up the bathroom, move all of the tools and equipment out of the house and into the garage, sweep and mop the entire house, and hopefully be able to take some great pictures to make a for sale by owner flyer. A lot of work for three days, but we are going to do our best…

Kitchen Countertops Started

Posted by Kevin

kitchen counter2.JPG counter3.JPG counter4.JPG

We have finally begun working on the kitchen counter. First we cut and attatched the plywood, then the backerboard. The hole for the sink was cut out. Then we layed out the tiles, starting in the corner so it came together correctly. We got a few taupe-colored tiles, and placed them randomly among the white tiles–we didn’t want it to be too white, since the lower cabinets are all painted white. Tomorrow we will apply the thinset and lay the tiles…neither of us has done this before, so we are taking our time and checking each step as we do it. It is looking good already, so hopefully we will have a great looking countertop when we are finished!!!
