I have been working at Macy’s for about a week now. Until Christmas, they have me working at the Frango desk at the mall entrance to the store. And I have sold a ton of Frangos. They are truffle-like candies that were originally sold at the Fredrick & Nelsons stores here in the Northwest. When F & N went out of business, the right to sell Frangos was sold to The Bon Marche here in Seattle. Then Macy’s inherited the brand from The Bon. So that is my job. Selling Frangos. It has been fun since it is the holidays and it is quite busy. And who can be grumpy when they are buying chocolate? I am hoping that they will invite me to stay with Macy’s after the holidays since our houses may never sell, but they don’t decide who they will keep until the holiday rush is over and they can decide how many people they need…

We have been here in Seattle almost six months, and aside from getting the house ready to sell(which was a lot of work), neither of us have worked. Or had any income at all. I decided to see if I could get a temporary job for the holidays since so many places are hiring here, so I filled out four online applications–Fred Meyer, Safeway, JC Penny, and Macy’s. That was on a Saturday. On Monday I got calls for interviews from Macy’s and JC Penny. Since we were in South Dakota at the time, I made appointments for Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, I went to my interview at Macy’s. It was a group-style interview, although there were only two in my group. After a few questions and some role-play, we were both offered holiday jobs. I am working at the Northgate Macy’s at the mall entrance selling their Frango candies. It should be fun, and it gives me something to do. Not to mention a paycheck every week.
