Las Cruces, NM To Fort Stockton, TX

Posted by Cynthia

We only drove 287 miles today. The route was very windy, so much so that I thought we might get blown off of the road:( Good thing there was not much traffic–some wind gusts were seriously scary. We got to the city of Fort Stockton around 2:30pm local(central) time. We drove by three RV parks before we found a spot to park. We were told that the town was undergoing a lot of new construction, and all of the construction workers were taking up all of the RV spots. We barely fit in the one spot that was left, but it works for one night. The park is only $15 per night, but it is just a big dirt parking lot. We get full hookups for that price, but we have plenty of water on board, and do not need sewer hookups for only one night, so we didn’t waste time with that.

Once we got settled, we were going to go to the actual Fort Stockton, but we realized that it was nearly 4:30, and the fort closed at 5. Oh well. We did go to the miniature Wal-Mart they have here, but just picked up a few things. We went back to the RV, just in time for the rain to start…although the cat did get a short walk in. He seems to not be feeling too well today–hopefully he will be okay for these nest two days of travel.

It is now just past 9pm local time, and the winds are still blowing and it is raining hard. Yippee!!
