Work day three we were assigned to housekeeping. We told Jan, the manager, that we would help out where ever needed until our snack shack opened, so that was what she needed today. There are around fifty cabins that people can rent if they want to camp but do not have camping supplies. Some are very basic, with a couple of beds, a fridge and a microwave, while others have kitchens, full baths, and sleeping for ten. We took a bunch of pictures of the insides of several varieties of cabin as we were cleaning them.

Today, work day four, we cleaned two more cabins in the morning, but the regular house keeping team had finished the rest, so we had a few odd jobs to do after lunch. We fixed a banner, we swept out the new water slide, and we organized the picnic tables. That was the big job. Each regular site gets a picnic table, but as people get comfortable, they move the tables around. We had to match up each site with a table, and we tried to line them up down each row as best we could. Sometimes there was a tree in the way, but we got them all back to where they belong. We are still sore from moving over 100 of those tables…

We got up and went over to the office so we could fill out our employment paper work. We got that done and we each got three uniform shirts and $10 worth of purple painted quarters which we will use for laundry. When they collect the laundry money we will get our purple quarters back. So we basically get $10 a week in free laundry. Probably more than we will need.

We had the rest of the day off to get settled and stuff, so we went to the next town over, which is quite a bit bigger than Waller. We got a water filter for our drinking water, another fan, a couple of hats, some other supplies and some groceries. Then we did a little organizing, and relaxed the rest of the day.

Our first work day. We reported to the office at 9 AM, and were told we were going to be driving one of the golf carts around, checking for car passes in each vehicle and arm bands on each guest. That is the only way they have to make sure unauthorized people are not using their facilities. We found a few who had come in late on Friday and had not registered, so we sent them to the office. There were also some who had just not put their bands on. We really did not find any unauthorized visitors, but we spent the whole morning and afternoon looking…

The next day was Sunday, so most of the campers left. We were assigned to garbage pick up. We got a golf cart and two sets of grabbers, and drove/walked each site as people left and cleaned up after them. Most were actually pretty clean, some were immaculate, and some were not. We finished early at around 4 PM, and took the rest of the evening off.
