San Antonio Missions

Posted by Cynthia

Our last day in San Antonio.  We went to two more of the San Antonio missions.  First was Mission San Jose.  It has been restored and was interesting to walk around.

Then much smaller Mission Concepcion.  This one was not open–we just walked around outside.

There are two more missions in San Antonio but after the Alamo yesterday and these two today we decided that was enough.

After the missions we went to Costco.  We got a few things and had lunch there.  Then we went back to the park.  Kevin got the car hooked up so we will be able to get an early start tomorrow. The plan is to stay in Pecos, TX tomorrow night…

Downtown San Antonio/The Alamo

Posted by Cynthia

We spent the day in downtown San Antonio today.  Our first stop was The Alamo.

Photos were not allowed inside, so these are all of the outside and the surrounding area.

Then we walked a few blocks over to the San Antonio river walk.

It is just over two miles of walkways along the San Antonio river which flows through downtown. There are lots of restaurants and a few shops along the way.  We took a boat tour that was so crowded we could hardly move–but the tour was nice.  It takes nearly a month for all of the Christmas lights and decorations to be put up so on November 5th the Christmas tree was already decorated.  We ate a late lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.  We sat on the patio (last picture) and had the biggest burgers we had ever seen!!

Here are a few more pictures of miscellaneous buildings of San Antonio.

We got home around 5:30 and did nothing the rest of the evening.  We sat outside with the cat until dark, then watched some TV.  Another early night.  Someday I’ll get used to standard time…

Waller to San Antonio

Posted by Cynthia

We left Jellystone park around noon and headed towards San Antonio. We wanted to leave between nine and ten, but we had some issues with the tow bar, which slowed us down considerably. Most of the work campers that were leaving left on Sunday morning, so we were one of the last to leave. We said our goodbyes to the managers, who reminded us that we could come back next summer (sorry-no thank you. Too many other places we want to go.) and then Suzie and her granddaughters came over to say goodbye and watch us pull out.

We drove approximately 185 miles today, and we will be in San Antonio until Friday morning. The park we are at is on a golf course, and there are many year-round tenants. It seems like a friendly place. People were out all evening walking their dogs, or just strolling around the park. We are very close to the missions, and about three miles from downtown and the Alamo, which we are planning to visit in the morning…

Last Day of Work

Posted by Cynthia

Today was our last day of work, and it was a busier Sunday than we have had in a while, so it went by fairly quickly. We decided to have snack bar food one last time–spicy boneless chicken wings and fries.

After dinner, we returned all of our (many) snack bar keys, shirts, and laundry quarters to the managers. Then tried to get a little more packing done. We plan to leave by around 9:00–we only have about a three hour drive tomorrow to San Antonio where we have a reservation for four nights…

Wednesday & Thursday

Kevin was doing some more clean up of the outside of the coach, so I went out to help a little. I saw this bug in the doorway and I wanted to take a picture of it, but I didn’t want to open the door and have it fly inside. I poked it with a stick a bit, and it moved away a little so I went inside and got the camera and took this picture.

Then we took up the awning mat and we were trying to shake it of when somehow a bee got in my shirt and stung me on the shoulder. It has been a long time since I got a bee sting, and I was surprised at how much it hurt. It has been two days and I still have a bump…

We got the awning mat sprayed off and drying, the chairs and step ladder stowed away, and organized a bit.

Wednesday night was our last work camper dinner and “awards show.” Everyone came–even the three couples who just recently arrived. The new heads of activities set up the clubhouse all fancy. We had steaks grilled by John, the manager, along with baked potatoes, salad, and vegetable, plus enough beer and wine for at least 50 people…

After dinner, they did their “awards.” They honored everyone who worked on the haunted house, plus John and Debbie, the managers. The pictures are dark and maybe a little blurry because the room was very dark by this time and I didn’t want to use the flash…

We were there until after 9:00, and we were one of the first to leave–the drinking continued until well into the night.

Thursday was a nice, easy day. We did a little more cleaning and organizing, but we also relaxed quite a bit since we work the next three days. Kevin worked on waxing a bit more of the coach and also climbed on the roof to clean off the seed pods and leaves that have accumulated. He found a couple of small punctures in the roof so he repaired those–but we have no idea what caused them. He also cleaned the front windows. I went through some paper work, payed some bills, cleaned up and dusted the bedroom, did some laundry, and organized the food cupboard so that the chips and things on the table would fit inside. We hardly have anything left to do on Sunday, so we should have Sunday evening to relax before we hit the road first thing Monday morning.

Tuesday Afternoon

We went to Cypress for the last time today. We decided to go to Chili’s for lunch because I was in the mood for Mexican, but Kevin didn’t want to go to a Mexican restaurant. Then we got there and they had a soup and salad lunch that came with chips and salsa, so I decided to get that instead. Kevin got a steak and ribs combo. We shared the chips because they brought me a huge basketful of them. Then I got salad and a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup. It was supposed to be endless soup and salad, but with all of those chips there was no way I could have eaten more than one bowl of each.

After lunch, we went to HEB–mainly because I wanted to get my Greek yogurt. We needed milk and bread, but we really didn’t need much food. We ended up buying a bunch of snacks. Then we stopped at the outlet mall on the way back. We wanted to get some Auntie Anne’s pretzels–Tuesday used to be dollar pretzel day, but I guess they don’t do that any more. We got two pretzels that we will eat tonight instead of dinner since we had such a big lunch.

We got back and Kevin decided to wash the car. I went and took a picture of the new office being constructed. It seems to be coming along nicely. Here is also a picture of the cat watching a squirrel. It is a bit dark, but I thought it was funny.

Last Day of Housekeeping!!

Posted by Cynthia

Today was our last Monday of work, and our last day of cleaning cabins. We did about the same as last week–nine cabins in six hours. There were plenty more that needed cleaning, but we were done. The rest can be cleaned throughout the week since there are no rentals until this weekend.

We have the next three days off, so we will be mostly ready to leave by Thursday afternoon. We are still going to do our grocery shopping tomorrow, but we really have nothing else to do in town so it will be a quick trip.
