We were scheduled to have the snack bar open every day this week, but the park is nearly empty. Now that school has started, people really only come on the weekends. There is one motor home in an RV site and one cabin rented today, so we did not open the snack bar. Jeff and Rebecca did not open on Monday or Tuesday either, but they did make a few pizzas on Monday for the crew that is here paving the road.
This morning we went over to the office at around 10:30 to see if we were needed. We did a few little jobs–organized some bins of candy in the store, moved a table, and hosed off the patio at the snack bar. A long 3-hour day:) I thought we were going to learn the reservation system, but I guess the managers changed their minds. It seemed sort of silly for us to learn reservations anyway–at most we would work in the office one day a week. There are other campgrounds that use the same system, so we were willing to learn, but if we don’t need to, that’s fine, too. I guess we are off tomorrow as well, so we are planning to go somewhere…

This is the last week that the snack bar will be open on the week days. After labor day, we will only open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The park stays busy on the weekends through Halloween, but since the kids are back in school, the weekdays are very quiet. We have been working around 42 hours a week during the busy season, but we should be able to go down to 28 - 32 hours a week for the last two months we are here.
That will give us an extra day off each week to see the area. I have already planned a day trip to Waco, and we still want to go to the beach, and there are more museums and things in Houston to see as well. Hopefully we can see everything we want to see in the last two months we are here…

Wednesday it was still rainy and grey, but the high winds that were expected never came, so that was good. We can handle a little rain. The ground here is a solid clay, though, so even a few days after the heavy rains there are still puddles in a few places. Our little front yard looked like a small lake.
Thursday we had the busiest weekday so far at the snack bar. There were a bunch of day use people in the park, and they kept us busy all day. Kind of nice after a really slow beginning of the week. After work on Thursday, we needed to go to the store. We were low on water for the snack bar and we forgot a few things last time we were out. We went into town and got some dinner at McDonalds then went to WalMart for some stuff. We wanted Dairy Queen for dessert, but I guess they close at 8, because they were already closed for the night. We got drumsticks at the store instead.
Friday was hot and sunny again. There were workers in our kitchen half the day working on our air conditioning and exhaust system. They didn’t start out with the right system, now they are spending tons of money to fix it…
It is Saturday around 10:15, and the people next to us for the weekend have a big dog. They had him on a leash so long that he just came around the front of our motor home and into our yard. The cat did not like that 
I had to go and ask them to move him. Well, its time to go to work now. Kevin is sick with a cold so he is just now getting up. Maybe we won’t need him much today and he can come back and sleep…

We were off Monday and today, but we didn’t do anything interesting at all. Yesterday we were kind of waiting for a rep from Sysco to come out to the park so we stayed here. He was going to bring us some samples of popcorn chicken that the owners want us to sell, as well as some packaging ideas for it. He never came. Maybe he will be here later in the week, but that means we can’t order the products until next week. Oh well.
Everyone in the park was preparing for tropical storm Edouard Monday evening. We were expecting high winds and lots of rain. Awnings were being rolled in and everything that could blow away was put inside. We don’t keep much out, so we just put our chairs and little table away. We definitely got a lot of rain, but there was hardly any wind. It was not much different than the thunderstorms that regularly blow through the area. Some of the work campers were really worried about this one for some reason. Rain is still expected for the next few days which is actually kind of nice because it means it will be cooler than it has been…
We did still go into Cypress today. We left earlier in the morning than usual just in case the storm got bad, but it was really nothing. We went to IHOP for a late breakfast. It just recently opened, but it was still quite busy even at 11 am on a Tuesday. I had their special lemon pancakes with berry sauce and whipped cream, and Kevin had original pancakes and sausage. We both thought it was good. Then we made quick stops at Radio Shack and JC Penny’s, then to Wal-Mart for groceries. We spent more than we usually do–nearly $52.00, but we were out of some staples and I got a few things that I only buy at Wal-Mart. We didn’t really need anything else, and it was raining pretty hard, so we headed home. I watched the storm from the coach, but Kevin got stuck over in the snack bar. He went over to make sure the Sysco order had come in and to see how the day had gone, and it really started pouring. He just stayed and talked to Jeff and Rebecca, and had lots of stuff to tell me when he got back.

We really have nothing new to report. We had a normal Saturday and Sunday here at the park. Busy but not too busy–no record days this week. The park was full, but it was really hot, maybe the hottest weekend since we have been here, so that is probably why it wasn’t busier at the snack bar…

We went in to work early today to do some maintenance on the deep fryer. We were only doing it once a week, but it didn’t seem to be enough. It was very hot all day long, so we only got a few orders during the day. We didn’t really even sell that many drinks. But around 5:30, we started getting busy. Susie was working, so she delivered orders to campsites and helped in the kitchen when she was not delivering. We were busy right up until 8:00–closing time. I had put a chicken stew in the crock pot around 12:15, and by the time we got home it was a bit over cooked. The chicken was a little dry, but the rest was okay. We ate it with some rolls that we get from Costco, and it was fine.
Then when I went outside to walk the cat I saw that some people who had already stayed here twice before this summer were back again. I talked with them for awhile–they said they have two more weekends scheduled as well. They reserved the same spot five times this summer. I guess this is the place to be
While talking to another work camping couple, I found out that one couple had been let go and will be leaving the park tomorrow. Their work had not been that good from the start, and they had six or seven dogs with them (there were so many I don’t really know if anyone knew how many they had). They did not fit in here from the beginning, and no one is sorry to see them go…

Wednesday we worked, but we closed an hour early because we had an employee pot luck at 6:30. The owners supplied chicken and rolls from a nearby restaurant and everyone brought side dishes to go along with the chicken. I made red potato salad. I used five pounds of red potatoes, so I kind of fiddled with the recipe a bit. And I don’t like eggs in potato salad, so I didn’t put in any eggs. Everyone said they liked it, so I will keep that recipe handy for another time.
Thursday was a fairly slow day at the snack bar. Lunch was okay, but it got up to 98 degrees, so it was just too hot to eat pizza I guess. I got a lot of stuff prepped and ready for the weekend. Hope it’s a busy one!! Our work camper friends Judy and Kathy had relatives come to visit, so we went over to their place after work to meet them and have a little ice cream cake. There was a little potato salad left from Wednesday so I ate that for dinner–after we had dessert!!

We are almost half way through our stay here, and we are thinking of where to go next. We are considering Yuma, Arizona, and getting regular jobs for awhile. Yes, we will have to pay for our RV site, but we will be paid more per hour and we won’t have to work where we live. We are still open–we haven’t decided yet, but the dry, bug-free Arizona days are looking real good to us.
So Monday and tuesday we were off, and we went to town on Monday. We had lunch at Spring Creek Barbecue again. It was really good the first time, so we got exactly the same thing this time. They gave us so much meat that we had to take some home with us. I think we will probably go back again. After that, we did our weekly shopping and also got some stuff for the snack bar at Sam’s Club. Tuesday the zoom lens for my new camera came, so I played with it for awhile. I took some really great pictures of the cat…

After a slow Wednesday and Thursday, we weren’t sure what to expect for the weekend. But the weather turned out to be great and we had our busiest Friday and our second busiest Saturday so far. We were busy working all weekend, so there is not much to report…
