Wanted to get rid of the 27″ tube TV to get a nice HD LCD TV. After alot of measuring, a 32″ model would be the largest that could fit because of the clearance needed to open the cabinets that are on either side of the TV box. Also changing out the TV’s would save some weight and be able to use all the space for storage the old TV used.
The base plate is a 28″x18″x1/4″ thick piece of aluminum. Angle piece is 1/8″ aluminum and then a piano hinge. I liked the idea of a pin on the opposite side of the hinge to help carry some of the weight so the hinge didn’t carry the entire load. I thought the pin could help carry the load and keep it closed so I bought 2 of the pins that are wood screw threads on one end and machine threads on the other. (Can’t remember what they are called) Works great, acouple wing nuts and nice clean installation and very strong. Used EPDM rubber weather stripping as a bumper and also to keep some tight tension on the whole setup so there are no rattles at all when we travel. Cut the wood frame that went around the TV box to finish off the top and bottom.
Just need to finish off the inside, add some shelves and some good usable space there.
