Manual Sun Visor

Disassembled Shade Cut Reassembled Mounted

Visit the Projects Gallery

I wanted to install a better sun visor than the standard oversized auto type visor that came with the coach. I looked at Maxi SmartVisor 30″W and basically was what I wanted, the big problem being there was barely enough room to mount it and when mounted over 2 inches would extend off the edge of the under cabinet padded area. Also it would have been very close to the track that the front window curtain slides on. The 30″ model is the smallest one available, so I decided to order it, with the idea that if I just couldn’t get it to work, I could return it.

Once it arrived, I held it in place and determined it would work, but just didn’t like the look of the end just sort of hanging off on the right side and being extremely close to interfering with the curtain. I looked at the possibility of cutting the whole assembly down by 3 inches, then it would fit perfect. I disassembled the unit, which was quite easy, and determined all the components were made out of aluminum and should be easy to cut down. I used my saber saw with a metal cutting blade and all cut pretty easy except for the housing which was the largest piece to cut down, but working slowly finally got it. Just a pair of scissors worked great on the fabric. Reassembly went smooth, winding the spring tension unit took a little trial and error, but once assembled worked great and it looked like it originally came as a 27 inch unit. Installing in the coach was easy, I did have to move the fan forward acouple inches which was no problem.

Overall quite pleased with how it turned out.
