We’re Still Here

by Cynthia on May 16, 2010

We have been working close to full time hours since we started work here.  We cleaned and organized the kitchen and have been working on setting up the menus.  We have met with both of our food suppliers and are ready to place our big orders for Memorial Weekend.  We have cooked food in both kitchens now – employee dinner in Yogi’s Place restaurant where we cooked burgers, chicken and pork sandwiches, and fries and tater tots.  Earlier today we made and delivered 30 pizzas for the site owners meeting in the Boardwalk Cafe.  We have one couple who will be helping us full time in concessions, and we will be interviewing (and hopefully hiring) six people to help us out.  We will probably need three or four more people once school is out.  That is when we will really start to get busy.

On our time off, we have gone to the closest city (Tomah), where there is a Walmart, a bread store, another grocery store and a bunch of fast food and casual restaurants.  The closest city with a Target, Sam’s club, Home Depot and shopping mall is LaCrosse, which is about an hour from here. We went there in the days before we started working, but will probably need to go back again soon.

This part of Wisconsin is crazy with water parks, both indoor and outdoor.  We saw some big ones on the way here.  They are working on filling the pools here.  It takes a long time to open an entire water park, so they start weeks before it will actually open (Memorial Weekend).  Hopefully everything goes well.

Anyway that is the main reason I have not posted in so long – nothing remarkable has really happened.  But so far it looks like it will be a good season – the people in charge know the campground inside and out, and there seems to be a good mix of employees, many of whom we have worked with at other parks.  I will try to not wait so long to post something again, but we have two weeks before we will start getting busy.  Next weekend the larger restaurant will open for the first time, and the snack bar will open the weekend after that.  We will let you know how we do…
