Exactly a week ago, we had a day off together so we went to the Dells. Wisconsin Dells is about sixty miles east of Warrens. We passed through on our way here, but we did not stop. It is definitely a tourist town, and even though we are hundreds of miles from the ocean, it reminded me of a beach town. Called the water park capital of the world, there are theme parks, water parks, amusement parks, haunted and fun houses, and of course the ubiquitous fudge shops and cheap t-shirt shops of tourist traps. We mainly wanted to go to see the unique sandstone formations along the Wisconsin river so that is what we did first. We took a Ducks tour, some on land, some in the water.
Unfortunately the sun was in exactly the wrong place to get the best pictures, but a few did come out okay. The landscape was really interesting, including the chocolate brown water. We were told we would see some wildlife as well, and we did see a few deer and some birds, but none I could get any good pictures of.
After the duck trip, we had a pizza buffet lunch.
The pizza was good and there were lots of pasta choices, and I could have eaten an entire plate of that homemade bread. But look at the plates they use–they’re HUGE! I felt a little silly getting one tiny piece of pizza on this huge plate/tray, but that was all they had…
After we ate, we walked down the main street a little and bought some fudge and caramel corn for the ride home. Most of the shops were pretty cheesy and icky, but the candy shops where they made their own stuff were pretty neat. And let’s not forget the chocolate coated bacon.
I tried to get Kevin to get some, but he just got plain old fudge instead.
